SNMP Research

The primary business of SNMP Research International is creating, licensing, and supporting software for the management of networks, systems, applications, and legacy devices. Their objective is to help companies deploy standards-based management with shorter time-to-market, lower costs, better fidelity to standards and interoperability with less risk.

They provide innovative solutions for extensible agent, manager station, and mid-level manager implementations that are based on SNMPv1, SNMPv2, SNMPv3, HTTP, and other protocols.

All SNMP Research products support the secure SNMP version, i.e. SNMPv3. The v3 version of SNMP is also the only version part of Official Internet Protocol Standards. All other SNMP version (v1 and v2c) can be considered as historical.

Monitoring and Controling

CIAgent - SNMP host Agent Suite

CIAgent is a ready-to-run, SNMP agent which features Web-based access for remote management. This secure agent is built on the EMANATE Master Agent and includes many extensions for system and application management. CIAgents may be configured to perform policy-based automated actions based on threshold events and commands from management applications.

Security Pack - to implement SNMP v3

The SNMP Security Pack provides an extension to for instance HP OpenView Network Node Manager (NNM) or Tivoli/NetView, allowing to use SNMPv3 with security and administration. SNMPv3 provides safe configuration and control operations. Its administration offers logical contexts, view-based access control, and remote configuration. By providing SNMPv3 support, the SNMP Security Pack offers NNM customers the benefits of a comprehensive approach to management security, including authentication, authorization, access control, data integrity, key management, and encryption options. Security Pack allows NNM customers to use set commands to alter device or network configuration in a secure fashion and to add security to other sensitive SNMP transactions, such as the exchange of network topology between multiple NNMs.

SNMP Development

EMANATE - SNMP Agent Development Framework

EMANATE is a run-time extensible SNMP agent. The EMANATE system includes the world's leading subagent development kit, which automates subagent development. Based on a Master Agent/Subagent architecture, EMANATE allows subagents to be loaded and unloaded dynamically at run-time. A de facto industry standard for SNMP agent extensibility, EMANATE is licensed by such companies as Cisco Systems, Hewlett-Packard Company, Lucent Technologies, Siemens AG, Hitachi Ltd., and Nortel Networks.

BRASS - SNMP Manager Development Framework

BRASS is a Management Application Toolkit designed to provide facilities for creating SNMP management applications. It provides a C programming API that allows one or many management applications to access a single, shared SNMP stack and security database. BRASS optimizes the management station platform by providing full SNMP functionality, management application extensibility, SNMPv1, SNMPv2c, and SNMPv3 support, and simplified security configuration. BRASS also allows for efficient memory usage when there are multiple management applications.
